Buying

Buying

To find the best livestock for your farm we undertake a thorough and robust process. Our work starts well before selection day and isn't finished until we have checked and double checked the delivery. Here is an idea of what this entails.

Prior to purchase

We work with you before the purchase to ensure we know exactly what you need and perform due diligence on potential purchases.

  • Search out cows and herds that fit your needs for breed, quality, and price.
  • We review the herd history. For this we look into factors such as breeding, typical production, and feeding regimes. We factor in stocking rates and the length of walks to the shed.
  • We reference the herd against the previous years herd tests. We confirm the production numbers and cell counts. We even include cows introduced after the previous lactation to ensure no stone goes unturned.
  • We make sure that the important records are available well before the selection day. These records include all herd information and test results. We source records on herd profiles, scanning, and calving information.
  • We help you negotiate the terms of sale and ensure a solid sale agreement is drafted to back that up.
On the day of selection

When it comes time to make the final selection, you are not on your own. We will are there to ensure that everything we found in our due diligence is what is being presented.

  • Organize and coordinate cow/herd viewings.
  • Confirm that only to cows within the contract parameters are present. We challenge anything that doesn't match.
  • Keep thorough records of all the selected cows. We compare all of the cows with the original records to assure nothing is amiss.
After selections are made

Once the selection made there is still plenty of work to do. We are here to ensure you are delivered exactly what was agreed upon and nothing less.

  • Regularly monitor the livestock to ensure the conditions of the contract are always being met.
  • Plan the transportation to ensure the purchasers responsibilities are met.
  • Perform a comprehensive pre-delivery inspection to confirm the condition of all of the cows. We also obtain scanning and Lepto certificates.
  • Organise any third party assessments should a disagreement arise.
  • Finally, we confirm the delivered tallies against the charged tallies.
